Copy Cues Club #2

Hey Reader,

Congrats on being a member of one of the world's coolest clubs*.

Today's copy lesson comes from Stop by Spice Girls, inspired by Helen Barnett:

"Stop right now, thank you very much
I need somebody with the human touch"

*As voted for by Bex.

What does it teach us?

The Spice Girls are remembering we need to be people first. This matters because:

✨ It helps you stand out in a sea of AI generated texts

✨ It builds an emotional connection with your audience

✨ Personalised content can boost engagement (by up to 42% according

to HubSpot)

✨ It builds customer trust which in turn builds brand loyalty

Make it work for you

To give your audience the same feeling think about whether you can:

✨ Start your emails in a way that stands out compared to others

The lovely humans at The Marketing Meetup are pros at this without being sleezy or weird. Take a look at some of their examples.

✨ Use "you" more than "I" or "we"

This shows you're more interested in your customers than yourself. A super quick acid test of this is to look at your website (if you have one) and count how many times you use "I" and "we" versus "you". "You" should be the clear winner. This example from Trainn is one of my faves.

✨ Add in a sprinkle of relatable humour

Like when Uber launched this ad for people who "eat and go places".
