Copy Cues Club #5Hey Reader, Life has been life-ing and there's been an unintentional wee pause but we are so back. Today's copy lesson comes from How to Save a Life by The Fray.
Step one, you say, "We need to talk" He walks, you say, "Sit down, it's just a talk" βπ§ Listen to it on the Copy Cues Club playlistβ β What does it teach us?The Fray show us how to deliver copy which may be heard to swallow or digest by: β¨ breaking it down into simple steps β¨ repeating key messages to reassure the listener β¨ addressing the fears of the listener β Make it work for youTo make your hard-to-deliver copy easier to take on board, think about: β β¨ Using lists to break up informationUse numbered lists, bullet points or tables to allow clear comparison and make information easy to understand - especially if it's technical or complex. Apple do this really clearly by comparing different features at a glance, letting you cut through the noise and focus on the information which matters most in a buying decision. β β¨ Clearly signposting the major takeawaysWhen things are technical or detailed, it can be easy to lose sight of the wood for the trees. Especially if your audience aren't experts in the field. XTM, a translation software company, keep readers focused on the main benefits by recapping each section with an easy to understand key insight. β β¨ Directly calling out your audience's concernsβReaders have valid concerns. They want to understand your process. Often it's more about the why than the what. Jammy Digital show how to do this excellently in their blog post about raising prices. They're transparent, clear and communicate their values. β β β β Want to work with someone "insanely talented"?π I got you.π€«P.S. the answer is that I give a 10% discount to non-profits β π΅ On my playlist:β π Crying over Scotland's 6 Nations Campaign Another year of what could have been. There's always next year, right? β πΊ Paradise Oh my gosh. This show. I finished it two weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. I was on the edge of my seat from the twist at the end of the first episode to the end of the series. β π The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny Diving into the most recent book in the Three Pines series and feeling apprehensive about what lies ahead. β Thanks for being part of the gang. I'll be back in your inbox next month, β β¨ Bex β¨ β πP.S. I'd love you to send me your favourite song or movie so I can use some copy from it in a future newsletter and give you a shout out. Just hit reply and let me know. I promise I'll read and reply to every email. β β Need a website glow up? | The Copy Check Up could be for you.
